Special Mekong brew.

Lunch was fish, green mango salad, and my favorite sticky rice! I can't find this rice in Singapore yet, but I've heard it exists somewhere.

This is a view of the hotel from the river. It looks like nothing special from the outside.

The hotel was across the Mekong from Luang Prabang. The only way to get there was by boat.

I tried some palm wine, but not these wines with something else inside.

I took the plane from Lao Airlines to Luang Prabang. I didn't realize the ~45 minute trip would translate into an 11 hour bus trip on the way back!

View from the plane.

Even the airport had happy new year signs.

Dinner was sticky rice, fresh fish from the Mekong, and papaya salad.

Drinking honey-lemon green tea.

The monks have to sweep the floors themselves. It may be hard to see that's what he is doing in this photo.

The sun was too bright in Vientienne, so this was the only way I could keep my eyes open during the photo.

The sun was too bright to open my eyes for the photo! This is Patuxai, in Vientienne, Laos.

The view from the top of Patuxai in Vientienne, Laos. Many monks were sightseeing.

The guy posing in front of me was much better dressed for the photo.

A view from the other side. This places was very popular for taking photos.

I expected something better inside than a massive souvenir shop. There was no elevator so at least it was a place to stop on the way up to the top to buy cold drinks.

I wanted to get one of these Lao calendars. They were ubiqitous in every restaurant and store, but no one had any extras.

The sign says: Good people don't ruin their country and have manners not to litter thoughtlessly. Think when you litter!
