Clothes must be washed with water diverted from the river. This is the local schoolhouse. Some residents are able to afforded corrugated roofs and satellite television. I'm not sure what kind of fruit this is, but it's edible.
Walking in the Laos countryside, near Luang Prabang. This is a local village of one of the ethnic tribes, who speak a different language than in the big cities. Seeds are laid out to dry in the sun.

The hotel was almost empty because it wasn't yet officially open to the public. The sun rising over the Mekong river. The hotel is located on the other side of the river from Luang Prabang, and the only way to get there was by boat.
I tried the tasting menu at 3 Nagas, in Luang Prabang. It included Lao specialties like riverweed (similar to seaweed), and dried water buffalo meat.

There are two kinds of boats that you can take on the Mekong: a slow boat, or a fast boat. The fast boats make the passengers wear helmets and are very dangerous because there are often rocks just below the surface of the river. Monks in bright orange robes till the land next to the river.
